My students loved the little garden school kit. We combined it with our unit all about plants. It was super engaging to have the kids be able to see the life cycle of a plant as the little gardens were growing. They also loved the games that were a part of the kit. They were all very happy to take their plant home to their own gardens at the end of the term.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We were able to study nutrients and vitamins and figure out the benefits of all vegetables including those are less liked.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Really well thought for younger students. For year 3 and above, most of them had already a sound knowledge of the vegetable included in the pack.

I have actually done the kit in term 1 2023 as I couldn't do it last year. It is the second time I order this kit. It is really well thought with a careful scaffolding through literacy activities of the learning intentions. It can be used equally to promote healthy eating, sustainable practices, mindfulness...

Little garden was amazing in my classroom. The children were so engaged with getting their hands dirty and planting seeds. They watched them grow, learnt new vocabulary about seeds, germination etc. They were so motivated we then purchased seeds and grew our own seedling to sell at our school gala.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I believe the kit does not really lend well to this area. Students don't have control over what's put in their lunchboxes as an example.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? As the kit went across a term and some of the plants died I believe this area was not successful in my class.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Some students took their seedlings home and planted them in the garden. I know one of the students made a salad from their seedling and was very proud.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Science/Inquiry/maths (measuring seedlings progress)
I found the games and activities quite good for matching the context of the box. Some of the cups did not have seeds in them and some plants required different conditions than what could be found in the classroom. (Snowpeas loved the classroom environment!) Obviously since the plants took time to grow the students simply focused on the 'growth cycle' of the plant rather than recognising what different vegetable plants looked like.
