What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Science, literacy, cooking
The class loved learning about the different types of veges/ plants and working out the cryptic messages. Some of the vegetables were successful and others went to seed due to the time they were planted. We ate the lettuce that we grew and our most successful vegetable was the popcorn! We grew 4 huge plants that were almost the height of the ceiling! We got 5 cobs from the plant and then made our very own popcorn with the dried out kernels.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Math - measurement, estimation, Reading- research of the veggies, writing - we recorded our ideas
The children thoroughly enjoyed planting the seeds and looking after the seedlings as they grew. The most interesting was the popcorn which left the children predicting what might happen. We followed the process through to putting the seedlings into the garden outside our classroom to grow. Once grown the children were interested in sampling the produce grown - some we ate raw. Not only did the children enjoy the veggies, so did some of the community who come into the school grounds to enjoy our community garden. And to finally have the popcorn popped in our machine - what a treat. The children were amazed with what we had grown.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? writing, reading, maths measurement, science, te reo.
The children were very excited to open the kit and set up the display. We were growing beans at the time and made a great area in the playroom with this provocation. They loved planting their little shop seeds and seeing them grow, and were careful to look after them well. We looked at the lunar calendar and Matariki planting, and read stories around this theme. They repotted some of the seedlings in our pop-up greenhouse. A great resource with everything we needed!
