Great ideas mightily interrupted by COVID 19 lockdowns but has proved a solid foundation for this term’s depth and complexity learning.

I am continuing to use the check-in station that came with this kit everyday. It is great to get a sense for how kids are and also to track those who are having a stream of red days. Unfortunately, our class had a very piecemeal experience of the content as many people would have. The most important take away from the content was a range of strategies to empower students to build themselves up; this ownership of how they feel is so key, you can help yourself - you have the ability to affect changes to your emotions. Thank you so much for the opportunity to participate.

How has the kit impacted you and your students feelings toward nature? We are totally committed to being a Green-Gold Enviroschool.
What were the benefits of using Nature as a context for learning? The students became more aware of our school and what we have here. They also became aware of the changes our school has gone through and how areas of our school have changed over time. We have found there are no pests in our Ngehere.

This School Kit was used with 30 Year 6 students - we had a little bit of time each Tuesday to work on it. So it has been a slow but steady process to work through it since returning from 'Level 4 lock down'. We investigated our Nature Space and what is underneath it. We wrote some fantastic listening poems. We loved planting the Kowhai Seeds and every student was totally engaged in this activity. We set the tracking station and we are about to do the chew cards this Tuesday. Unfortunately we didn't get to / haven't had time to study what was above our Nature Space. It was good timing for this kit for us as we are now in Conservation week.

We have absolutely loved this kit and have really enjoyed finding out about our 'space' in more detail. The Kōwhai seeds have been a real hit and our mini glasshouses are doing their jobs well - we had a real variety built and most of them seem to be working to some extent. We were pleasantly surprised that we didn't have many pests lurking around our grounds. The kit has tied in really well with our ongoing stream planting project and propagating plants, but putting the focus back on our school area was really interesting as opposed to focusing on areas that are a few kilometres away. Thanks School Kit for another fabulous, engaging and adaptable kit.

This was a great kit it had everything we needed to plant our nature space and to explore the life cycle of a kowhai seed. Unfortunately with covid we weren't able to use the kit as well as we would have liked. Would recommend.

What cross curricular learning opportunities arose from using Nature as the context? A lot. Like I said above it was used to bring our class together after lock down, was about making connections (in many ways), appreciating what we have and how amzing our school is. Mental Health was a big focus too.

What were the benefits of using Nature as a context for learning? This was in term 2 after lockdown so it was great to get out and about with the class and work together. We live in a very natural area and it helped enforce our values and learning.

Due to the first Covid lockdown and everything being pushed into this term. We have not yet started this kit. We were due to start next week but with recent events are unsure what will be happening at this stage. I have had a good look through this kit and are really excited to begin this project. We have a number of students who are really passionate about the environment and this kit seems like a great way to get them thinking about the positive impacts we can have on the environment we live in. Please note that I am reflecting on how I think my learners will respond to this kit as we are still in the process of completing.

Thank you very much for this kit. We have shared it across the syndicate as the other classes missed out. We have really enjoyed learning about our spaces. There is a small bush area in the school that has been explored in much greater detail. The children have become far more aware of the environment around them that we have generally taken for granted. We are intending to create action plans to further develop or enhance our school environment.
