My class absolutely loved this kit and got a lot of learning out of it. Following their experiences of distance learning, my students decided they wanted more control over their learning in terms of working independently at their own pace and choosing the order in which to complete their tasks. As a result, students were split into six groups of four and I created Google Slides outlining all Nature Space tasks with links to videos etc. Students worked through them all, adding reflections and photos throughout. The only downside was students rushing through maths and writing tasks so they could spend longer on this kit!

The kit was great and the children were really getting into the naming of beautiful and unquie features of our school environment. We are still growing the trees and intend to plant these out at a later stage when they are bigger and have a better chance of survival. We have also been lucky enough to get some slightly bigger trees to plant around the school.

I definitely enjoyed some aspects of this kit. Would have been great to have more time on it than I was able to allow due to COVID. My class and I were a little disappointed that our seeds went mouldy. We look forward to picking up parts of it again later in the year when we go on camp.

What were the benefits of using Nature as a context for learning? I liked how it made my students more aware of nature. I find so many students these days don't realise where their food comes from.

We really enjoyed planting the seeds. It seemed like the soil pods didn't give as much soil as there was supposed to be in the pots. I found the instructions on the teacher guide quite hard to follow and a couple of the links didn’t work. Unfortunately, we haven’t had any seedlings yet but are still hoping we’ll get there! This kit was supposed to tie in with the Term 1 inquiry so unfortunately didn't tie into any learning that we've done in Term 2.

This kit contains some great informational sheets and has some interactive models for the children. Some of the items in the kit are unclear as to their purpose. I have had limited time to explore this kit due to COVID 19 and hope to incorporate into my classroom this term.

My year 5 & 6 enjoyed the Inquiry learning kit Our Nature Space. The Kowhai seeds grew and the materials supplied were excellent. As we have a Kowhai tree at school we also germinated those seeds successfully. This fitted in with our Matariki event- feasts , new growth, celebrations etc. Sorry I have no pics as they took them home for the holidays. I do have a pic of our wall display though. A lot of the work especially the astronomy part was too advanced for our children. This was definitely more aimed at year 7 & 8.
