My students really enjoyed this kit. It linked really well to our inquiry, which focused on flora and fauna in New Zealand. The 'Notice This' portion was great at getting them to find beautiful things in nature, and planting the Kowhai trees was a great hands-on experience. The Night Sky portion was great to do during Matariki.

This was an easy to use kit. The teacher manual was straight forward and easy to follow. We were overwhelmed with the 'seeds' and planters resources - very generous. Students were engaged and interested in the resources provided.

Thanks for this opportunity. We made a start to this unit but it was interupted due to Covid. We did exploring of spaces and the students took the seeds home to nurture over lockdown - with varying success.

How has the kit impacted you and your students feelings toward nature? For most of the class it has made them think twice as to how the interact with nature and how 'boring' our school environment is at the moment!

Room 6 started off with a hiss and roar with this kit. They started off engaged and really keen to make a change to our environment. Unfortuantly, once we started exploring our school we couldn't really find anywhere that captured the kids interest. We planted the seedlings ( and had a few sprout!!) but I struggled to keep the kids engaged. I do think that a lot of this was down to the year we are having and the uncertainty going on as I started this kit just after lockdown. I don't think it was the kit itself but more my class and their involvement with it.

How has the kit impacted you and your students feelings toward nature? They have a better appreciation and respect for the nature around the school and in their own backyard.
What were the benefits of using Nature as a context for learning? We made connections from our readings, videos and daily lives as a context for learning. The best part was when a student was on walk and a stoat and a rat were fighting and they caught it on film. We also had a member of DOC speak to the students.

What cross curricular learning opportunities arose from using Nature as the context? Technology has played a big part with google maps to view the site from above, then maths mapping and doing grid work to plan. We have researched plants and ideal growing climates and looked at companion planting. We have looked at what animal/insects we

How has the kit impacted you and your students feelings toward nature? This is a space the tamariki are invested in. It is difficult for them to visualise how it might look in the future but they are noticing the small changes.
What were the benefits of using Nature as a context for learning? Being the kaitiaki of our taiao is very much a value we are trying to instil in our tamariki and that they can shape the future. This kit was a fantastic catalyst for change for us.

Thank you for this comprehensive kit. Before the lock down our school had identified our nature space. It is a waste area on the bottom field that has become overgrown and unuseable. We have recognised the potential of this area and your kit has given us the resources to once again make it a valuable nature space. The project is being undertaken by a year 5⁄6 class under the guidance of our science teacher.. The kit’s planning sheet is well set out and follows the inquiry model we like to use. We have a high Maori population at our school, so the Te Reo resources are invaluable. The activity cards are easy to follow and we are sharing some aspects with whanau as well. We haven’t completed our project, it is a well thought out long term project
