My students really enjoyed this kit. It linked really well to our inquiry, which focused on flora and fauna in New Zealand. The 'Notice This' portion was great at getting them to find beautiful things in nature, and planting the Kowhai trees was a great hands-on experience. The Night Sky portion was great to do during Matariki.

This was an easy to use kit. The teacher manual was straight forward and easy to follow. We were overwhelmed with the 'seeds' and planters resources - very generous. Students were engaged and interested in the resources provided.

Thanks for this opportunity. We made a start to this unit but it was interupted due to Covid. We did exploring of spaces and the students took the seeds home to nurture over lockdown - with varying success.

How has the kit impacted you and your students feelings toward nature? For most of the class it has made them think twice as to how the interact with nature and how 'boring' our school environment is at the moment!

Room 6 started off with a hiss and roar with this kit. They started off engaged and really keen to make a change to our environment. Unfortuantly, once we started exploring our school we couldn't really find anywhere that captured the kids interest. We planted the seedlings ( and had a few sprout!!) but I struggled to keep the kids engaged. I do think that a lot of this was down to the year we are having and the uncertainty going on as I started this kit just after lockdown. I don't think it was the kit itself but more my class and their involvement with it.

How has the kit impacted you and your students feelings toward nature? They have a better appreciation and respect for the nature around the school and in their own backyard.
What were the benefits of using Nature as a context for learning? We made connections from our readings, videos and daily lives as a context for learning. The best part was when a student was on walk and a stoat and a rat were fighting and they caught it on film. We also had a member of DOC speak to the students.

Brilliant kit - our whànau got so much out of this. We adapted a number of tasks to suit our needs and added in our own as well. A lot of the activities students were able to do at home during lockdown which was a real bonus as well. The ideas presented in the kit for the learning experiences really helped inspire our teachers to adapt and come up with their own which was great from a creative point of view. The practical element of propagating the kowhai seedlings was a real nice touch - we are going to gift these later on in the year. Students made some mini-greenhouses to grow their seedlings.

This kit has so much to it. The importance of looking around at your surroundings and thinking about it from different angles, feeling the heart of nature and its beauty is what this kit inspired. Looking at colours and spaces and what we can do with it.

A great resource to help develop the principle of future focus. Our students (year 8) were motivated to think about ways they could leave their school a better place and enjoyed planning a garden that would beautify their playground.
