How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? I had no idea the depths of the NZ Navy history and its repercussions today. This kit provided myself knowledge in order to prepare my students, which I’m grateful for!

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? This kit has opened their eyes and built a hunger for history, especially on the back of current world events!
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Students loved the website, but also the Spotify playlists for each zone. We hope to delve more into the resources this coming term.
“We started with this kit last year for a term and found it really easy to follow once we got stuck in. Unfortunately we only got through the first section and are now revisiting the rest this year under our ‘conflict’ inquiry. It’s brilliantly setting the foundation for us to discuss the role of protest through many conflicts in NZ history and beyond!”

Students could recognise specific actions that the NZ Navy were participating in, and the timeline having the different categories helped them to categorise the tickets and think more critically about the specific actions of the New Zealand Navy..

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? Students were able to 'show off' what they had learned this year about analysing sources and enjoyed the practical nature of the kit. They were able to do the 'Zoom In' and 'Zoom Out' quite well and could see how the sources were connected. The variety of sources was fantastic.
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? They liked the protest badges, Spotify playlists, and newspaper front pages the most interesting and engaging.
“I did this with my year 11 History class at the end of the year. We had been exploring protest action in Aotearoa (more specifically the 1981 Springbok Tour) and this was a nice complement and a great way to allow the students to show off their historical skills. We only had 3 lessons with the kit as it was a 'hands on' activity before they finished for the year. They enjoyed being able to apply they skills they have developed over the year.”

The sources were in paper and website form so it was good that it was multimodal. And the website versions helped the students to understand the paper ones.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? It helped students to place themselves in the pacific and have wider engagement with their pacific history. Also acted as a base for students to dig into different bits of history they wanted too.
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Students liked the experience of the paper ones but website helped to reinforce the paper ones.
