What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? I feel as though we didn't go as deeply as we could have. While the students learnt fragments of new learning, it didn't go very deeply.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Honestly, the whole thing was very confusing. Students loved exploring the online site but piecing the physical resources together was a mission!

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? My students went from minimal knowledge of the NZ Navy to understanding a fair bit. The students in my class that are 'military mad' were definitely hooked in by the content.

Brought up some links with home and family member that had been in the navy in the past.

Students weren't aware that there was a Nuclear Free NZ movement prior to looking at this topic so it helped them to realise how interlinked the world is and how decisions that a country can make can have an impact on another country.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Used resources like the badges and 'diary entries' for drama - had to do a lot of explaining as students are very low level readers. Needed a lot of support and guidance to access information but just kept the ideas quite simple.

“Used some of the kit in the way it was intended but working with students with learning barriers and limited text reading/writing skills so had to simplify a lot of the information. Liked that it was part of NZ history and students could feel that it was relevant to them.”

We had a student bring in a book their grand parent had written about their experience in the Navy during this time. Children realised the risks to sailors and how our navy were protecting the pacific. Also learned their role in the rainbow warrior episod

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Kids enjoyed discovering what the pictures and items were and how they were relevant to our study. They enjoyed the videos and digital aspects too.
