Many of my class were more interested in the perspectives of everyday NZers or those living on the islands on the Pasific than the Navy. Certainly, they do know more than they did about the Navy's impact on NZs history than they did.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? Students were able to learn or hone some of their research skills which is an important skill. I was pleasantly surprised with how engaged all students were.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? The resources were excellent. By far the best kit I have recieved and I will continue to use the resources in years to come.

“This kit was interesting for me to teach and for students to learn about. Because of the wide range of resources, it was simple enough to differentiate for students who needed extending of scaffolding. The online support material was incredibly useful. The students in my class enjoyed the documentaries. Due to time constraints, I wasn't able to teach as in depth with this unit of learning as I could have. There were many crosscurricular links.”

This year probably limited awareness and understanding was built from using the kit, as the students had developed knowledge of facts before the kit arrived. Next year the kit will be used earlier in the study programme.

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? They didn't have much knowledge before about the NZ Navy. Due to our geographical location they were more familiar with NZ Airforce so was good to be able to draw some comparisons and seeing what the NZ Navy did to contribute to history.
