How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? It was completely new learning for me and 99% of my students. I would say we have a beginning understanding of it's role in that part of our history.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? This has opened their learning in a whole new direction, and unlocked a new area of interest for some.
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? The photos, badges, music and maps.
“I loved using this kit with my class. The hands-on resources were very engaging for my learners, and having them digitally meant everyone could choose the format they preferred. We played the spotify playlist in the background which prompted some funny reactions and interesting discussions! After exploring all the content, the connect phase was the best part. We did this on the floor of the classroom and my kids enjoyed moving and connecting the dots - you could almost see the parts all falling into place and connecting in their heads.”

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? For our Hamilton classroom the Navy is not something our learners have ever really considered, so this kit definitely built awareness and understanding around the NZ Navy and it's role in NZ History and even simply, what it is.

“The topic was engaging for the majority of our Year 10 students in a combined Social Studies and English course. The paper resources were interesting and the online versions and website easy to make use of and read. The resources were at an accessible level for a wide range of learners across the curriculum. At times it was a little challenging to comprehend all the little details and viewpoints. Was great to have our students learn about something so connected to New Zealand and the wider Pacific and something none of them had any prior knowledge about.”

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? The resources were clear and easy to navigate. The bomb gone website is a fantastic resource to teach students about the NZ Navy and their contribution to our history. They were especially interested in Operation Grapple and the Rainbow Warrior bombing.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? It was a very insightful kit! It has had an impact on each and every one of my students. They all created their own presentation about NZ Nuclear History - reflecting on all they have learned.
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Bomb Gone website. The photos with NZ Navy veterans, and their personal stories on the back. They also enjoyed co-constructing the class timeline. (Although it would have been good to have a completed teacher copy for me to refer to - check correct dates etc)
“I used this School Kit with my Year 7/8 class. For a lot of the students, it was their first time learning about nuclear weapons, The New Zealand Navy and our Nuclear history. There was great 'buy-in' from all my students and the resources to support the teaching were fantastic. The wall display was great and the students enjoyed investigating the resources both online and hard copy. Overall a great kit, very informative and engaging!”

“Excellent variety of resources. My students especially liked working with the timeline and updating it as we went. We ended up making pecha kucha presentations at the end and the rich resources clearly influenced the high quality outcome.”

“Bomb Gone: Nuclear Free Pacific is a well-thought-out unit with lovely display resources for the classroom. The resources are possibly too delicate to hand around the students however, they do make for a great display wall. I found these resources helpful to use alongside our NZ Aotearoa History updates.”

“Your kits are amazing!  The resources are detailed and give the element of authenticity that many of the students really love. It is obvious that a lot of research has gone into preparing theses kits. They give a unique perspective on events that have taken place in our recent history as is the case for the Bomb Gone unit.  The kits give a different method of presentation each time that keeps it interesting. The Aotearoa NZ History unit gave a broad perspective on events that are relevant to students today. The research and teacher notes made it easy to use. I have really appreciated having access to these very valuable resources. Thankyou.”
