How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? The unit "Bomb Gone"touched other areas of the NZ History that are not usually taught to our students. We already did aNZ History unit at the start of the year, but we covered early maori, Settlers, NZ Land wars and NZ disasters.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? It is great to have visuals and specific stories and lessons to build our knowledge from.
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? My class loves all types of research and inquiries. They did not know a lot and this meant that they learned heaps as their inquiries continued. A great topic.
We did the Bomb Gone unit in my syndicate. This was 3 Year 8 classes and 1 Year 7 class. The box of resources were amazing and the displays the classes created were all different and a great motivator for our lessons. We plan to add a display in our library along with history books about the topic in Term 4.

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? By providing the reading materials was the start and it just got even more interesting as we looked into it further with further research and other reading related to the topic. The video documentaries, the audios and music gave students the visual to re

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? The kit had a positive impact of my students' learning and I was learning alongside with them. Having to unpack and discuss the situation, who was involved, connecting the dots and how these impacted the decisions made then, kept my students interested an
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? I think both resources were useful because as much as we had the hard copy materials, having the online resources and other websites like Te Papa, New Zealand History websites supported and gathered for the different learning levels of students in my clas
One of the most intriguing unit I've taught. We had good days, ok days and not so great days but, students didn't give up trying. The research they had to do gave them so much more and an opportunity for deeper understanding of the decisions that was made at the time of the different events. The Method of historical inquiry card - best guide for the young researchers in the class. The best part was getting to team teach this unit with another class and the students engagements sparked so many questions that continued the discussions making connections to other learning areas.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? It has definitely sparked an interest in NZ history. I have had a couple of students regularly asking me if we can learn more about NZ's history. Which is fantastic!!
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? The link to the navy, and spotify were well received by the students. The initial laying out off all of the physical resources sparked initial curiosity - which was awesome!!!
My students absolutely loved learning about how NZ became nuclear free. The kit items sparked interest and ignited a desire to discover what everything was about. The online links to the NZ navy were super helpful, and very informative, Overall a well thought out, thought provoking, and inspiring kit. thanks so much!!

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? My students and I have walked away with a deeper understanding of the NZ Navy's contributions to NZ History - none of us were aware of just how much the navy was involved in these events.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? The students have been in awe of the events that occurred in NZ that they were unaware of. They want to know more about their own country and our rich history. They've also come away with a deeper understanding of nuclear science and what potential risks
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? They loved the flags, the spotify playlists and the viva aotearoa poster. They also really loved the drop n cover video that set the scene of what the global environment was like at the time.
The physical resources were amazing, the topic was engaging and the website was fabulous as well. My only wish was that there was more of a 'guide/plan' to using the wonderfully curated resources, because as a first year teacher I was not super sure how to run an investigation and what cool activities I could do with the students to engage them with the physical resources that much. We ended up spending a lot of time having discussions about individual items, but it often felt like we might've missed out a resource by mistake.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? They gained a clear perspective of what had happened in their own back yard and were able to form their own ideas and conclusions based on the evidence provided. They could explain and justify their ideas using history as the basis for their ideas.
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? All of the resources were useful and gave the students a clear understanding of this period in our history.
We really enjoyed this resource, and it dovetailed beautifully into our NZ History cause and effect inquiry. Students found the resource engaging, informative and useful. We all learned a great deal from this kit.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? There was a sense of injustice but then pride that we are nuclear free. They like David Lange's famous I can Smell Uranium Under your Breathe speech at the Oxford Union debate.
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? They liked the replica badges and photos.
Thank you for this great resource. There was lots of cool display material. This theme links in perfectly with the decolonisation of the Pacific context mentioned in the Aotearoa NZ Histories Curriculum. Students were shocked that the Pacific was a testing ground.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? Ākonga are enjoying the way concerns raised from within NZ and PI shores affected a break away from nuclear armament participation.
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? We are enjoying the tactile nature of handling and investigating the artefacts and discussing the connections we make. I've made reading comprehension tasks from materials and we have enjoyed the video and sound content, practicing T-chart note-taking ski
Loving my kit!! I was a bit worried about targeting year 7 students, and about how to condense the material due to time constraints. I have structured literacy/social sciences lessons that linked very nicely to our WW2 module since operation grapple starts 1945. We discussed the cold war beginnings and the nuclear arms race for context of the testing. For a provocation our ākonga started with the news report soundbites from the sinking of the rainbow warrior: how did we get to be nuclear free after supporting nuclear testing? And... They are loving it! We are enjoying the tactile nature of handling and investigating the artefacts and discussing the connections we make. I've made reading comprehension tasks from materials and we have enjoyed the video and sound content, practicing T-chart note-taking skills and paraphrasing. Thanks heaps for the terrific resource!
