How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? There was plenty of detail of the Navy's significant involvement on the international scene. It also 'zoomed in' on individual sailor's experiences and consequences they faced due to Nuclear Testing in the Pacific.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? It was just a really good interactive way for them to practise using primary sources, and engage in the moral/ ethical debates around nuclear testing + our security.
Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? The photos with descriptions.
“I LOVED using this kit. I actually ended up using it with my year 12 class, as I felt it was a bit too detailed for my juniors. We are looking at the cold war, and Operation Grapple. The class got really involved. Would recommend 10/10”

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? The kit illustrated clearly events leading up to NZ anti nuclear stance. The students were proud of the fact that despite being such a small nation, we made a strong statement which still impacts us today.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? Made them aware of the effects of nuclear war far and what took place regarding NZ becoming nuclear free. The investigation of the Rainbow Warrior fascinated them. Gave them a sense of pride as New Zealanders.

“Really good kit. The supporting resources were diverse with good links and wall displays. Fascinating topic that hooked the kids in. They wanted to know more and were motivated to undertake their own research. Very interested in NZ history of anti-nuclear stance.”

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? The involvement of the Otago, Canterbury and Tui was virtually unknown. Students knew a little about the protesters but nothing about Government or Navy involvement.

“This kit was fantastic and engaged my students (Yr 5-8). Placing items on a timeline really got a lot of researching and discussion happening. The range of media used meant there was something for every akonga to engage with. The moral discussions allowed us to see the perspective from the other sides of the situation.”
