How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? While it has supported me somewhat in being able to deliver the history curriculum to my students, I still feel as though I needed a lot more time to sit down and study the information further.

“While I feel that the School Kit has a wealth of information, I did find that some of my lower to middle students struggled to find the information that they needed. I personally love the website and did learn a lot more information.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I would use the same model of exploring the pepeha and then they area. I really liked learning how to read and photo and teaching this to my students was great. It is something we will definitely use with old photos of our area and school.

“It was such a cool resource. At first I found it quite tricky to unpack and to figure out what goes with what but once I got my head around it it was great. My students really enjoyed unpacking the different things that happened especially unpacking the springbok tour.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It definitely helped my confidence. Knowing the work had been put in behind the scenes ensuring the validity of the information, and then actually getting everything together!

“This kit was absolutely incredible. There was so much work done behind the scenes collecting together all the physical and digital resources to hook the learners in and keep them engaged in their learning. There were so many different stories, so it gave the learners agency and choice over which stories they inquired into. It was awesome to have so much literacy embedded throughout too.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This was so easy to facilitate in the classroom with the learners, while still giving huge freedom to us as teachers to take the unit in any direction we wanted/the direction our learners wanted to go.

These were real stories and it was obvious that they were real stories - they felt real to the kids, not made up or"cos the teacher gave them to us". This made a huge difference to engagement in our classroom.

“This was a phenomenal kit. The quality of the resources was amazing, the reproduction of 'real' historical artefacts was so cool and the kids really engaged with things that were tactile. Then there was the website - the kids really enjoyed the process of 'being an historian'. We talked a lot about how historical research isn't easy, and how the answer isn't always in the first place we look, so the fact that links didn't always work or pages got updated was actually a good thing! Because this is real. The whole process was a joy. The kids got to choose their own interest/direction which meant high engagement.”

“This is another excellent resource, I can see this as something that we can use in the classroom for many years to come. As a teacher, it is tricky to find the best resources but the School Kit's always come up trumps! We have had general conversations about items and they have sparked home learning about what their whānau remember from their childhoods.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? All materials are much appreciated and will be used again and again. I was hoping for more information about the migration and the navigation history including Kupe and Tupaia as this would have suited our Inquiry topic. Thank you so much.
