I think that students engaged with the personal stories much more than just researching facts. Additionally, collaboration with iwi/whanau/community meant the stories were more authentic.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It helped increase my confidence to teach NZ history. It reminded me that you don't need to know all the answers before you teach it - finding out together really works.

“Excellent resource to encourage independent research. It motivated my students and was an excellent way of providing NZ historical events for them to consider. It took me a little while to find my way around the website and feel confident introducing it and how it worked to the class.”

“What a cool kit we received! It had so much stuff in it. Although it didn't quite hit the brief for our inquiry (we didn't know that when we ordered it) it's a great resource for future units. We also teach Year 3-4 children so picked and chose the bits that were relevant for our age group. Many thanks!”

“Unfortunately, we have been unable to use it with our Year 4 students because it didn't fit with the direction our Senior Leadership wanted our Aotearoa NZ Histories unit to go. Hopefully we can use it in the future as I think from what I have seen and read it will be a great resource for inquiry.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It has encouraged me to teach it. Through this I was able to see a clear pathway to teach the facts. I am familiar with some of these local stories but it was good to know where to find more facts. I think this model could be used again but to be honest

“I found this kit very easy to use. It had everything you could want to keep the tamariki engaged in the research of each postcard. My year 4/5 class decided to work whole class to get through each task, this gave me opportunities to add more information where I could. I will continue to use this for the rest of the term but think it's a treasure to hold onto for the years to come. Thank you so much for putting such a great kit with so many resources.”

“There was a lot of amazing content and resources. I found the levels (even the ones aimed for year 3/4) to be too high for my student who are year 7 & 8. I took a lot of the info and made my own lessons.”
