“I loved the objects included in the kit. We did a unit on 100 objects and used these as teaching tools in how objects can tell us so much about our individual, local and national identity! The website was great but it does sometimes become a little overwhelming with the amount of information and how it is set out. Depending on the class, I would take bits from the site and breakdown in a lesson vs letting them loose with the website!”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I feel quite confident about delivering the new Aotearoa Historis Curriculum now. It is really good to see how a simple photo and object can be enough to stimulate self led inquiry

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? As a result of this kit we have started collecting some more artefacts and photographs relevant to the history of the West Coast to explore with the children. We have utilised some of the resources at Shantytown to help with tihis.

“The Aotearoa NZ Histories kit is fantastic. The physical objects and photos prompted superb discussion and have been the stimulus for a lot of independent inquiry work. We have not explored all of the kit as the parts we used were so engaging that we went off on a tangent. This is a kit that we will use time and time again. The website that goes with the photos and physical objects is also very good and easy to use.”

“Great resources and website, missing some information on the website. The language was difficult for some ESOL students. Comprehension of some concepts was challenging for some students. Great variety of tasks and different stories. The school kit support for teachers was great. Able to filter appropriate tasks for our learners. Presentations were a variety of Powerpoints, Book Creator, Canva, Minecraft and Pear Deck”
