“Thank you a well-resourced kit that had the students hooked in with the physical resources provided. We found the curriculum level of the content slightly challenging for our students so ended up adjusting some of the teaching content. We will continue to use this kit for many years to come, a great starting point for NZ Histories.”

“This was an interesting way to approach history in Aotearoa. We looked at sites that were relevant to our local area, as well as ones connected to our different unit topics. For example, we had just finished looking at Nazi Germany government and were surprised to learn about the tree brought back to NZ from the 1936 Olympics. Created quite a bit of discussion.”

“This School Kit worked really well with our term topic - Past and Present. Although we didn't get through many of the stories it would certainly be something I would use continually throughout a year to promote discussions and conversations about our history and our stories. I have a Year 5/6 class and we did shared lessons to investigate stories. This provided opportunities for excellent discussions and higher order thinking skills. We continually make text-to-text connections to our learning.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I liked the idea of the children sourcing information through a story. We have recently unpacked our cultural narrative so have enjoyed learning about 'our place'. It would be interesting to explore other local stories that took place in the past.

I didn't really know how some of the stories connected, perhaps I missed something in the teacher material and we couldn't like the physical items so it was a bit confusing. Chrome books also have limited storage to downloading any files was an issue and

“This was a kit with beautiful resources, however it took me sometime to unpack what I had to do and how it all worked. After some initial excitement from my year 4 students, they quickly lost interest as there was a lot of reading to get through, some of which they did not understand. We also didn't think the physical items fitted with the Year 4 level of work, but I could be mistaken.”
