How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I was feeling a little nervous about it as my own content knowledge wasn't great. I found this so interesting and fun to learn alongside the children. Thank you!

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We could absolutely use this model to discover our local history (which we had started prior to receiving our kit - but now have a model to use for our inquiry)

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? At this stage there is still so much to explore within the kit I think we will use the cards we haven't yet looked at. The model for investigation is very effective and certainly could be used for local history inquiries in the future.

“What a fabulous kit. My students were instantly engaged when they saw all the fascinating taonga included and immediately started wondering about how it might relate to their inquiry. It was exciting to see them sharing ideas to identify the location of their event. My students worked in groups of four to investigate a postcard. They had roles as readers, researchers, recorders and reporters so they all had to play their part. These roles changed through the many sessions we worked on this inquiry. Several highlights stood out - 1. the growth of their observation skills (looking really closely at photos and documents for clues), 2. their use of digital tools such as Papers Past, NZ on Screen, Digital NZ Image etc, 3. the curiosity they demonstrated as they disappeared down digital rabbit holes! and 4. the connections they made between various people, places and events as they reported their discoveries back to the class. The group that followed the Protest card were particularly excited at the recent release of"Whina"and planned to see it during the holiday break. We certainly plan to reuse this kit for as long as the website remains intact. Thank you for a fascinating and highly engaging journey into Aotearoa NZ's past. Just the first of many!”

It definitely provides alternative resources to use with the students to help provide a wider variety of resources. I found the teacher lesson planning and support material difficult to navigate.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Great supporting materials supported myself and our learners to explore the history around us. You need to break it down step by step explaining the resources but once they got it, they loved it.

“Our learners were able to understand our history of NZ much easier by them discovering, researching and conveying the knowledge through coming up with new ideas! The only challenge we found was the language, te reo. However, with us finding out the questions and meanings together, it helped us more to understand. Supporting materials were super cool as the students were really interested and clicked on easily. Amazing!”
