How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The kids saw a photo and they thought it looked familiar, when the found out where it was, they really wanted to go and visit. It changed their perspective from being a nice sunny spot to being a place of both cultural and historical significance.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? The kit shows such a wide scope of history. Aotearoa NZ history doesn't only need to be about the treaty, Māori vs British, Māori wars. I'm not saying they are not important, but how interesting are the histories of some of our other migrants, and the are

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? I think this a significant move, as historically, history has been told from a pākehā perspective. I also think it was great to pause the kits where the iwi/whanau/community were not ready. That shows how much significance and acknowledgement is placed o

What an amazing kit. Such a range of interesting topics, and so well presented. I did an Aotearoa NZ History prior knowledge activity with my students, and all they really knew of was the Treaty of Waitangi and the Christchurch earthquake, so this was a real eye opener for them. The reading was a little high for our students, but it did give me an opportunity to learn the histories, and become a story teller.

It was great to have a variety of ideas of how to use this kit. When I signed up for this kit, I thought I was teaching a straight year 4 class but ended up having a year 3 and 4 class. To make it easier for the students we worked with one postcard together. This kit also linked well to the students learning their own pepeha.

This was a thoughtful kit that was really rich in new stories and a depth of understanding of New Zealand History. This was really transformative for us as a class and really meaningful. I would recommend this kit to anyone looking to dive deeper into NZ History with their tamariki.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This was fantastic. They visited the Featherston park to learn more about the Chinese and their story on their way to camp. We are hoping to arrange a visit to the Pahiatua museum to learn more about the Polish children too.

At first the children found it very challenging (this was good) but working with a partner they were fascinated by what they learned. They especially loved seeing that some aspects were local. They asked many questions and want to follow up further. We are hoping to be able to continue using the online postcards to learn more. They were able to visit one of the places whilst away on camp too!

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes! Our school and neighbourhood is quite new but the history of the land is fascinating and the kids were delighted to discover some local history, and started considering what will be the story we leave behind too.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This kit has really emphasised that it is the process and perspective that is important - content can be biased but when we think like historians we can now identify what is missing too.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It felt like there was a very strong foundation to this kit - each student knew their research was real and connected to real events and real people. They started making connections to themselves and their histories as well which was incredible.

An amazing assortment of artefacts that have absolutely hooked my students! We started the kit by researching one postcard together, so I could model the process and we could find any obstacles that might stop us in our tracks - by the end of the term my students were independently accessing the site, choosing their own pathway, and undertaking their own research. The excitement was electric as new discoveries were made and connections between places brought students together in animated huddles as they shared their new learning.

This beautiful kit was a hit with our learners. We've modified a bit to accommodate other learning commitments during the term and will continue to explore over the coming terms this year. Students really loved the beautiful artifacts, and that it was made specially for them with such 'fancy' resources. The buy in was huge.
