What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It was a wonderful way to connect with local stories. Even when the direct connection from the postcards and resources were related to settings outside our region, it still raised questions around how it may have connected to our context.

“Amazing resources which sparked wonderful conversations amongst ākonga. The tactile nature of the postcards really peaked the engagement of learners as they researched and tried to find the narrative behind them.”

“This resource is absolutely amazing. I have only touched the surface this term and will continue working my way though it. We started by reading a photo which gave us all a way to view old photos. Each story is written well and very personal. The links across the curriculum and with resources - especially with School Journals - has been valuable. I think that this is a Kit that all NZ teachers should have access to. If not for the learners it gives in site and development of teacher knowledge.”

“The children were initially very engaged with the idea of having to find out what the story was in relation to their postcard. They enjoyed using the website and finding the items of interest. They enjoyed being detectives. I think they lost a bit of interest in the amount of reading they had to do and some of the activities were not super interesting.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I am working slowly through the kit and will take it into next term. There is more to Aotearoa Histories Curriculum than I first thought as it opens up more than just Māori history which I what I thought for a start.

“I was really excited to use this kit. The resources are great and you can do as much or as little as your timetable allows. We started by looking at a card each in groups and just navigating the learning site. Next term we will explore a different card in small groups and see how far into the curriculum levels students can work to. Thank you School Kit for another great learning resource.”
