How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I think it ignited an interest that had always been there but now had some direction to move towards. Yes I could use this model again.

Wow! My students were enthralled by the pictures and the journey that we went on with this kit. As a South African teacher, I was able to learn so much alongside my students. Thanks so much. It was awesome.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? In Term 3 our inquiry focus is on being kaitiaki (guardians). Protectors of our stories, history and past to learn about and draw strength from. This is specifically linked to local stories around Otēpoti, the 'Neighbour' story has been reserved to provid

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? This provided me with real confidence that the stories would be authentic and contain views that may not always be represented in the mainstream Aotearoa history narrative.

We spent a few weeks working through this kit and I linked it to our report writing teaching for the term. Together as a class we worked on one of the stories just so we better understood the resources, layout and tasks. Once this was under our belt students worked through the stories. Lots of great discussions (both individual and whole class). Students were challenged (but still supported) to put the pieces together. So refreshing to see stories emerge beyond the more well known parts of the history of Aotearoa. Rich discussion and new insights into our history (both good and bad) around colonisation, equality, equity and inclusion in Aotearoa. Something tells me the true rewards of this learning experience will be fully realised for my Y7s in the coming years as they develop more and more of their own ideas and values.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? As a celebration of the unit, we did a class trip to our local heritage sites and museum to learn more about our area's history.

My class loved it! I have never seen them so engaged in an inquiry unit before. It definitely taught them how to use a range of sources rather than just one sole one. There is so much variety that no kid was doing the same and they were all able to learn off each other.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Having lived around the country, I could relate to a lot of the stories covered and could add my own story/experience to the ones presented through the kit. We get to hear stories from our learners whanau as they relay what they did at school that day.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Our learners respected the stories more knowing they have been told by the people connected to the events in history rather than reading a random article. This encouraged them to ask questions and spark their curiosity.

This is a fabulous kit which we have incorporated into our integrated literacy/inquiry programme. It compliments our term inquiry theme well and we have been able to pick away at it in our own time. There is a great wealth of content which is easy for the learners to follow and provides opportunities for student agency.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We were already on the journey of a place based curriculum in all areas but I can see how working in collaboration with our local Museum education team and the iwi connected to our kura we could develop an experience like this kit that is completely Whang

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It made a huge difference to me as I know this at the heart of the ANZH curriculum as well as place based education. It was also great to have the students thinking about this as they worked with the artefacts. It led into strong discussion about bias aro

I was super impressed with the quality of the kit and it's contents (not surprised though as these are always great resources). The activities and local stories were a great leaping off point - some even connected with my own past - for the students to begin their exploration of ANZH and to look at the perspectives either shared or needing to be shared. Another winner!

This resource is amazing and really helped to teach the children about the NZ history. The artefacts were really cool and helped the children to see what things used to be like many years ago.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It took a bit to unpack the stories but once we mastered using the resource the stories of local I will and communities came alive for our students. A lot of the history was well outside our local area and difficult for the students to access initially as

Something Happened Here. During Term 2, I led the class through a journey together based on one card. A more directed inquiry, directing them to the variety of resources available. The students were highly engaged in the research, especially unpacking the location and photograph. Term 3 will now allow us the opportunity to delve into cards related to our local area. The students have been really motivated and have asked if they could take a card of their choice.
