What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? One of the main concerns from teachers was that local iwi would be bombarded with requests from school's to share this history. It has been great that this has been done centrally and in a way that respects their history and time.

“This unit is great for filling gaps that we had with teaching the new Nealand History Curriculum. It was also great that you could pitch it at a level that is appropriate to our learners. The resources and activities were engaging and a little bit different from what we would normally do in class.”

“The School Kit - ANZH Histories was amazing. We used it to begin our journey through the new curriculum. We were able to gather thoughts and generate ideas around where we could take our school. The photos, artefacts and stories that were inside the kit helped create new knowledge and the kids were so into it all!”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? With kits like these it helps to make history more real. I still need to get my head around it, but this helped.
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We actually organised a trip to The Elms because of this to see the British influence and other outside influences on our country.

“It was a very good tool to use especially as the kids could use both online and offline information. The pictures were great and I like the puzzle-type activity it created for the kids. made them have to think outside of the box. Thanks for the work you put into creating such creative resources. It fitted in perfectly with the way the ANZ Histories curriculum and other curriculum areas are writing up lesson plans.”

“The resource in itself provides useful support for the curriculum document. I have some reservations as to whether the distribution of the resource was as effective as it could have been. There is little opportunity for historiography, or debate on the different interpretation of events. the resource follows the curriculum as a template, just as the previous curriculum was one.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I particularly like the te reo on the front of the postcards, especially as a river in our area was mentioned. This would be a great way to develop information cards as an outcome from the children

“This was a great kit that you can use in a variety of ways. The artefacts and photos were great hooks to catch the children's interest and we could then investigate further. The fact that the children could hold the items in their hands was brilliant. The website information was too tricky for my Year 4's to read but we develop picture notetaking skills as I read the information”
