How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I think we could use more places/ people connected to contexts in the past - e.g. Ngait Tahu signing memorialised in our city centre. It helped connect a few pieces.

We really enjoyed using the school kit as a starter piece for us to engage as a department how to unpack NZ histories.. some of the websites were not yet ready but we were interested in unpacking some different local histories for us.

We loved doing the ‘something happened here’ inquiries. My kids were engaged right from the start. They said it was like finding the clues in a game. What an excellent way to hook kids in to finding out about history in New Zealand. We will integrate these cards into our classroom programme on a regular basis. These photos show how we started the inquiries.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We are somewhat down the journey of engaging with manawhenua and exploring our local area but there were some stories included that we had not heard before.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? I will leave this one as I know in our local area manawhenua were not engaged in this process.

This kit is perfect for the introduction of Aotearoa NZ Histories. Really like the way that it starts with a pepeha to guide students to the location of the events. An interesting mix of histories and great resources (both in the kit and online) to support the learning. My students have been really enthusiastic about the kit. I have been doing them as weekly lessons and there is much excitement when 'that' time of the week comes around.

Very Solid Kit. The resources that come along with the kit are amazing and the students loved looking through them and the photos. They enjoyed the exploratory aspect of the kit a lot. Uncovering the location of their event by translating the pepeha and using various mapping tools and research skills. They also loved looking through all of the physical resources trying to figure out what was related to their event. The stories attached to the events are brief and interesting. The tasks could be confusing at times however they did enjoy them and it took them to places and thoughts they'd never experienced before. Sharing back their knowledge at the end was very powerful and students made connections between different events. Great kit. My greatest worry about this kit is whether the website will be properly maintained or given notice when it potentially gets discontinued. I will be teaching this kit again.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We struggle at the moment with engagement of iwi in our area, this may give us some motivation to engage on a more personal level.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Knowing that even the smallest korero can have such an impact develops confidence in my delivery. As always it is such a great framework to continue to use in our class.

This was such a well thought out kit. The attention to detail was so precise and our learners loved every part of it. They especially loved investigating the pepeha cards and learning the korero around these significant parts of Aotearoa's history.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We try and learn something new about our local history and place every year and this model has definitely sparked further thoughts about ways in which to enable this in the future. Taking a single photograph, or a map coordinate, highlighting an artefact

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? The postcards with pepeha were a wonderful starting point. I would follow a similar ignition for further work in this curriculum. Taking a set of clues and providing time to explore these is something that really appealed to me and to my students.

This was a fabulous way to explore this new curriculum area. The resources were engaging and extremely well curated. My students, Year 8s, learned a lot about their country while building upon seriously valuable research skills. Tino pai rawe!

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We only got to the kit at the end of this term, so have not gone onto our local area. I plan to review the local story we looked at and then link it to our area - as the postcard was about a town next to ours.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? We loved learning about our local area. The students were extrememly surprised not only that the kit had stories about a local area, but the content totally shocked them. It as a really good learning opportunity. However it did take me as the classroom te

I found the kit good. We only got to two post cards. The content in one of them was very heavy for my class, as it was about racism and it was about our local area. We plan to go back to this next term and discuss some more. We found one of the Year 4 stories very boring and did not engage the students. Maybe the content could be changed slightly to target year 4 rather than possibly an older group. My class learned at lot about researching. they learned a lot of Te Reo words which was a really nice bonus.
