It was quite a tricky unit for my year 5/6 students. We had a very mucky term so the lessons were few and far between, meaning there was no real consistency. Their engagement in the unit wasn't great either possibly because of this.

My class enjoyed the items in the box which led to more deeper thinking questions relating to NZ history. They were able to find out about them and make links to these items and their current history being made today.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This has helped me to apply local curriculum knowledge to the stories. We can connect to these and they are important for understanding our history in this region. Know that I have some knowledge, I have greater curiosity about what else has happened arou

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Knowing that these stories were developed in collaboration with iwi was really important for both myself and my students. I loved how this kit required the students to piece together clues and use research skills along the way. It was so valuable having photos, documents, maps etc. as well as the digital tools that students are well accustomed to using. I really appreciate all the time and effort that has been put into producing such a precious resource for NZ students to use. Such a lot of learning involved.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We incorporated in our literacy groups where the students, together in groups, made a presentation about the story and the events faced. It was really good to see them work as a group to find out more.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Knowing the whanau and community was involved brought a lot more mana and respect from the tamariki as they unpacked the local story.

Awesome kit with some hard mahi behind the scenes. Due to the nature of the kit, our class found that we spent a lot of time just unpacking the one sorry behind Ahumanga. We would have loved to do more but worth the time we had could only do justice on the one card.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I am always looking for ways to connect with our local iwi for stories - sadly, there is a lot of in fighting which is blocking this...at the moment.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? The fact that there was a root for the stories to come back to meant the students have taken the knowledge that has been shared a little more seriously and treated the information with more respect than previous inquiries.

The information in this pack was awesome and stretched far and wide across our motu. Sadly, because of the firewalls in place for student safety, accessibility for some of the sites was not able to be gained - which was incredibly frustrating at times - they were able to access through the teacher's rorhiko, engare one rorhiko split by a class is not ideal. Overall, it has been nice to see the interest of the students in our history being piqued and the conversations about our space being rich. Thank you Schook Kit for an outstanding opportunity.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We had previously learnt about the history of our local area. There was not a kit that I cam across that is about the local Palmerston North area, the closest was Pahiatua which most of the students could not relate to. Using this model could be good for

My students were very engaged in the beginning process, using the pepeha to locate where in the country they were. Having to answer it correctly to get into the next section was great. At times, I did find that some of the activities that the students had to do were not the best. Some of my students had to listen to a 50 minute podcast, which led them to disengaging quite quickly and they were not the type of students to do so. I found that some of the activities were missing as well or when students had to search for something that they could not find it.
