What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It was so good to have the range of perspectives from tangata whenua. It certainly made the story telling so much stronger and meaningful for the tamariki in my classroom.

“Thank you, School Kit. The Something Happened Here is such a comprehensive collection of stories of a time many of us had not heard of. Our students thoroughly enjoyed exploring the photos and artifacts, and I am looking forward to being able to use the resources for future students too.”

We love a localised experience and this fitted perfectly with our new focus within our curriculum area. It also encouraged us to create an assessment which required the students to collect their own voice.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It has sewn a seed and is an area that we will continue to investigate and develop. It is also great to see the links that the children were able to make throughout the year.

“Amazing, high-quality resources. Great to learn about parts of history I didn't know about. Resource was way to hard for year 5/6 students. Would be really beneficial for older students.”
