How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I will be using this kit again next year as it has allowed me to have a better understanding of our countries history.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This has given me enough confidence to start teaching the new Aotearoa Histories curriculum and explore more and look for further teaching opportunities.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes, could use this. We do already explore our local area but the use of many photos will be a way we change how we do things.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I have always been interested in history and wasn't worried but seeing how artefacts and pictures can be used has made the idea of teching the new curriculum easier.

“I liked this kit with the little actual artefacts and the many photos. It generated good discussions and the children learnt to observe more. I found the website difficult for the children to navigate and the teacher notes were extremely broad. More concise ideas on how to use the kit would be beneficial for those for whom history is nottheir area of expertise.”

“I found this kit a valuable resource to help me get started with looking into our history. The information was in depth and there is no way I could have found this information out on my own. I liked that it gave a range of areas in NZ. Starting with a pepeha was great as children had to research the Te Reo language to find out the area they were looking in. This related to their own use of pepeha and how it connects us to the land. I teach a year 5/6 class and felt this kit could be accessed independently with my top readers who are reading at 12+ years. This kit could be used as a whole class with a focus on one area at a time while guiding children through.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It was a little overwhelming at the start with a"want"to make sure it was done right. Once I developed confidence and understanding of how to use the kit, my confidence in using / delivering the kit increased.

“This was an excellent kit to creatively engage students into Aotearoa Histories, it taught students to engage with text and materials in different forms, rather than just having to"sit and listen' to a teacher"tell them. Highly recommend and will definitely be reusing with future classes.”
