How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I have attended a course with the local Marae where I learn't a lot more about the history in Canterbury. It has been great to understand this further.

“This kit had a lot of great resources, the images were relevant to the learning and gave a lot of discussion points. By accessing the digital information the students were able to unpack the kit in-depth and apply the knowledge throughout the learning.”

“What a thoughtfully curated and well-considered resource. Our year 7/8 students had so many entry points and opportunities to engage with the information. I really like the way it was designed to be so open-ended. Years 3-8 all used this resource in our school and all had totally different approaches and outcomes. The children delighted in the artifacts, and it was so interesting finding out about diverse histories of various areas and communities.”

This kit sparked my imagination and willingness to try multiple ways to facilitate learning from the new histories curriculum. I grew in confidence as I learned more and it is easy to see the links.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes, we explored our local history. We explored some astonishing stories of national importance that were told to us by representatives of the mana whenua of our place. Epic! There are so many stories that need to be told. This model is applicable to our stories.

“This School Kit is outstanding. The resources provided, both digital and nondigital, help students remain engaged and curious to learn more. The stories are varied and intriguing, both the student's and teachers' knowledge base were enhanced through using this kit. Bonus! The kit strongly supports the Social Sciences curriculum refresh, in particular Aotearoa Histories. The materials continue to be used in a range of ways across the curriculum.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? My confidence has improved. This kit has also shown me ways to explore history. The use of hands on artefacts it s great to to engage learners.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes it has. This term was are looking at creating a local narrative for our area of Pukehuia (Newlands). As teachers we have already started assembling items and images as provocations.

“This was a great kit for students to explore stories and various areas in Aotearoa. The items used provided a great way for students to create questions before exploring the online content. Dialogue between students was great and students often challenged and added their owns thoughts to the discourse. Awesome kit. Will be using again.”
