How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Though it a beautiful resource we found that it was suited more to the older children in terms of extending. We would have to do more research into one topic focus to really be able to break it down for the year ones (yr 3-4h

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This model is wonderful. Loved the pepeha to kick off all of the modules. Would definitely use this idea to incorporate into our local stories.

“This kit was exceptional. The resources were beautifully put together in such interactive way. The older children in Inquiry break out groups were able to use the this resources most efficiently in our kura. We dipped into our regional information to link to our local stories.”

“The kit that arrived was great and resourceful, however it was not useful as it did not match our inquiry topic for the term. Perhaps you could let teachers know exactly what is in the box before they order it so that it can be used to its full potential.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I realised that it is not daunting to explore the history of our local area and that it could very effectively be done thought stories.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It made me realise that students should intentionally be made aware of the rich history of our local area to take a deep interest. Yes, this model has worked brilliantly.

“We explored 2 stories; Chin Ting and the Polish children of Pahiatua. Many of our students live in an around Pahiatua and they thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the history of their town. The students from Palmerston North were equally engaged.”

“School Kit's 'Aotearoa NZ Histories 2023 Something Happened Here' kit inspired my Year 10 classes to dive deep into the history of our local area. A number of my students live in Pahiatua and their families have been living there for generations, yet they have never heard the story of Chin Ting. Many were also unaware of the Polish children who came to our area as refugees. I also have 3 Chinese students in my class, 2 of whom came to New Zealand as young children and the other one was born in New Zealand. They appreciated the hardship that Chinese people in New Zealand experienced in previous generations but sadly also related to the experiences of racism because they still face that in 2023.”
