We are a Samoan Bilingual class and have always approached our teaching and learning from our history's point of reference, and also the history of our tangata whenua as we are guests in their land. This kit and the curriculum content has been very affirming.
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model?
Our school wide theme in 2022 was Our Spaces and Places in Aotearoa, in which we looked at our local area, Mt Roskill, and the local areas of Waterview, Kelston and Mangere where some of our learners reside. We have worked with local iwi to learn our arrival story and the children are very familiar with it.
