How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Has given me access to information and stories that I had not heard before. A beautiful kit of resources and hands on clues etc that the students really appreciated

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Absolutely. We already adventure out into our local area often but this model provides the tools to explore the history alongside it.

“Definitely a valuable resource. One that needs to be used more widely amongst teachers. I especially enjoyed the local stories as we have been working alongside local iwi in ways we can implement our own local history into the school however big or small. Really enjoyed the different resources that were made available in the kit and definitely gave me confidence to teach it.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It was more challenging than I had anticipated. This was with one of the classes whose literacy levels were low. Facilitating this unit with students that were put off by having to read and follow instructions and navigate the web site meant that they struggle to engage with the content as opposed to those students who had a high level of literacy.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The kit certainly got us thinking about our own "untapped or unknown stories", more so the teachers who discussed areas within our rohe where events occurred that we were unaware of. This kit and the resources complimented the local area study workshop I attended at the NZHTA Conference in September.

“The kit was extensive and the activities catered to a wide range of student abilities. There were certainly challenges for those students who struggled with lower levels of literacy. Two year 9 classes used this kit and we did the work in Term 4 rather than as planned in Term 2 to fit with the department's requirements. A great resource.”
