“We came across this resource by mistake, talking to another teacher and we didn't know we could order resources like this from School Kit. The children loved the hands on resources and it gave more authenticity to their learning. We will definetly be looking for further resources from School Kit to support our learning in the future.”

“This year we taught the Culture and Identity AO of the ANZ Curriculum. The most popular resources in the box were the photos and the something happened here website. Students were highly engaged with the website when creating their own pepeha.”

“Not had the chance to use the whole kit yet as teaching across different subjects this year. Trying to build it in to lots of different areas. Did make use of the postcards in both English, writing to the sender using letter writing text skills, and a science lesson looking at communities and the cultural aspects that make them work.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I learnt about things that I did not know before. This made learning authentic as I was on the same learning journey as were my class. I’m more confident using the kit and you have made it so easy to use because the research has already been initiated. If I want to find out more, I can.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I have investigated Glenfield’s history a couple of years ago and would like to do this again. It was harder to find out the local Māori history and I am not sure who to ask.

“This was a stunning resource which had us hooked right from the start. After having a play with the postcards and resources to get familiar with how it worked, the class ended up working together through the Gold Rush. It linked perfectly to James Russell’s new book ‘Children of the Rush’ and children who would usually not get involved, were making connections, asking questions and continuing with their own research. It honestly is a stunning resource and I feel that there is so much more in the kit that I have not yet discovered. I really would love to revisit this again on 2024.”

“The students were very engaged throughout. They really enjoyed the part of the unit about the march and thinking about photographs. We did not get to finish the entire unit, unfortunately. My co-teacher and I did find the teacher's instructions and sequence very complicated to follow and the whole thing was quite confusing. I think that the process and teacher's instructions part of the website could be made much clearer and more straightforward! It would have been good to have the pictures/photos separated in some way to go with the parts that they related to.”
