How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It has really helped to engage my interest further.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Definitely - we have used a similar model to explore our local curriculum and traced the stories back to early settlers in our area. The kids loved finding out about the families that had local streets and roads named after them.

“I incorporated this kit as part of my reading programme with a self-led group of learners. What an awesome kit! The kids loved the vintage look of the resources and were eager to start learning about the underlying stories. The students were so engaged and wanted to further explore other happenings from the places they read about and the era that they took part. I would definitely recommend this kit as it was well put together and fostered real interest to engage the learners..”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It's a huge support as it provides replicas of objects, photos and documents that provide a physical link to high quality indepth resources found online, etc. The Cards make it fun and challenging to get to a new place to learn about what, and when, something happened there. There is an enormous amount of interesting content available for learning in the resources in this kit. Unfortunately our wireless network (since upgraded) made it differcult for students to access many of the resources online on devices so we needed to work as a whole class.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This is where we started with the kit and yes you could use this model to find out more about the local stories/ history here.

“This builds greater understanding of our shared past by unpacking more events in our NZ History in a more considered way and linking cause and effect by including a wider range of perspectives. It is valuing Māori stories/ history and also events prior to the arrival of Europeans.”

“Kia ora This was used in a classroom and as a provocation for a staff meeting. The provocations were exttremely useful to spark discussions amongst on both occassions tamariki and staff. The quality of the photographs and artefacts were outstanding. This worked like a box of curiosities for team hui and staff hui leading into the classroom. The postacrd like representation of key aspects in Aotearoa's post war history were fascinating to the tamariki and raised questions around for example "Milk Bar" and "Merchant". The Content Navigator is a practical tool for teachers to sort relevant resources quickly.”

“My Year 8 class had a a lot of fun with our New Zealand History unit. The students got to unpack and examine different artefacts, which led them to discover some lesser-known events and places in our history. The artefacts really brought the stories to life and made learning engaging. The kids loved piecing together the events and connecting the dots to understand more about our past. This hands-on approach got them thinking critically and working together. Overall, it was an awesome experience that made pieces of our history come alive.”
