I really liked this kit. The recreated artefacts were really cool and the instructions for how to read a photo were something new for my Year 7/8 students. Some students found the stories really difficult to engage with, but others got really into it.

Looks like it is going to be an invaluable resource as we navigate our way through the new curriculum changes. Such a relief to have all the hard mahi done for us and it's ready to pick up and use to engage our students.

The Aotearoa NZ Histories 23 unit was very well planned out with life like resources. These were particularly engaging and students enjoyed exploring them. The content was well pitched and had nice links across a variety of curriculum areas

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? As the kit has made it so easy to deliver the content, and I got to spend this term ironing out some kinks in my delivery as well as trialing various way to deliver it, I'm more confident. However, it still allows us to be on the same learning level as my students, which is often when they learn best too - when they teachers learning along with them!!
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I have recently taken the lead in the local curriculum development for my kura. I've started creating this resource based on a similar model, with a photo and then the local iwi story on the area too. I'm going to work with the iwi to also ensure I have the right pepeha for each area!!

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? It gave it more significance, knowing that the stories weren't all one sided (from the Europeans). It bought balance to the content.

This resource was beyond words. I used it with a group of Year 8 students and the skills it taught them as well as helped them strengthen were fantastic. It introduced them to events within NZ's history they had no idea about, and gave them the agency to explore what they were curious about, all based on an image. Even I learnt more this term about historical events than what I knew before. I'm so impressed by this kit and have raved about it to anyone who would listen.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It was a great way to approach the topics and I loved that the wheel made it so clear what part of the curriculum we were relating to.
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Absolutely. We went local first and that might be what slowed us down as we then heard about other similar stories and discussed those too.

We ran out of time to look at many cards / areas so this will be part of next year's learning too. Overall this is a great resource and I love the diverse range of topics and history it looks at. It was too big for a term 4 project unfortunately but I am looking forward to getting back into it. We did strike a couple of issues finding the answers to tasks with the suggested search in past papers, but that was good to encourage a bit of creative thinking on how to get the answers.

I did the Something Happened Here School Kit with my Year 10 class for part of Term 4. I really enjoyed the range of different stories and histories that were presented and felt like there was something for everyone to be able to engage with. I gave the students agency to choose what story they wanted to engage with individually or in small groups. They enjoyed learning about different stories but found some of the tasks a bit repetitive. Having done this at the end of the year didn't help here and I would like to teach it next time earlier in the year and link in some of the stories specifically to units we study.
