How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I feel it provided me more resources from which to teach, but, as I was an iCOL this year in the area I spent a lot of the year independently delving into this knowledge.

“The box contained an interesting range of material to spark student thinking. It is great for exposing students to a range of things that happened within New Zealand's history. Having taught intermediate previously, I feel the material is best suited for Years 7+.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Gave me a good guide as to historical events that could be delved into deeper. I have immigrated from South Africaand did not know a lot of NZ history

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? The Taihoa Bastion Point resource enabled the students and I to understand how the land was taken and how the protest and Waitangi Tribunal contributed to Takaparawhā (Bastion Point) being given back to the local iwi Ngāti Whātua. My school is located near Bastion Point so it was a wonderful opportunity to engage in place-based learning

The idea that these stories were gifted to us and it enabled me to understand and appreciate Mātauranga Māori. There were powerful stories for student and I to discuss especially points of view

“A few interesting things in the box that the students seemed excited about. There were some cool ideas in there, unfortunately we were not able to fully utilise them as we moved onto a different unit. This however did prompt some great discussions with my class.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? At my school we already heavily involve local history in our curriculum however it has been exciting seeing students explore other moments in history and make connections between significant events

“Term 3 and 4 are very busy terms at school. Using this kit I tried to weave it amongst our current inquiry topic and our local curriculum/ local history. My students enjoyed the few postcards that we explored. It was very teacher guided as I found it a bit much for my Year 4's, however with teacher guidance they accessed the information etc and enjoyed showing what they learnt. Having only done a few, I know I will continue to use this resource next year and in coming years! It will be a great resource to in the toolkit!”
