“We have been diving in and out of this resource since getting it and have found so many different avenues that the students can go down. The videos have been particularly successful with my students who find reading a challenge and they engaged more by listening to the interviews and stories. I will keep using this into next year with my next lot of students. The pictures and resources helped those students also who struggled to read as they could visualise the areas and people easier.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It was it a good resource and starting point for starting the new standards. It created space for research and inquiry for students. Awesome resources as well! The pack received was awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful pack received as well!

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes. It allowed an opportunity for us to research our own history. I cant wait to use it in other avenues as well!

“I loved using Aotearoa Histories School Kit Resource. Although I know a lot about NZ History, these were often stories that you don't find elsewhere. Note: You have to be super organised otherwise it isn't much use but it is such a useful resource it is really worthwhile putting the time in to understanding it before you start teaching.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? As lead teacher for delivery of the ANZHC these resources are invaluable for supporting teachers to deliver engaging lessons that encourage students to research their own family's history. We are able to work together and help each other to plan.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? As a staff we have been researching and visiting local historical sites to develop our knowledge.

“I work across classes and subjects. Y7 and Y8. The diverse nature of the resources in this kit lends itself to being used in a variety of ways that best meet the needs and interests of the learners. The cross-section of the ship and the floor plan of the house are easily used in maths. The Wanena box is a good stimulus for comparing these types of 'medicines' with Rongoā. This kit included resources that directly related to the cultural groups within our school. Using picture reveals has been a good way to get the children to look deeply at the information included in a photograph. Students can use the resources in this kit as a springboard for students to delve into their own family's history.”

“I loved this kit. it provided me with all of the material I needed to get me started in this new curriculum area which I was not overly confident about teaching. Having the backing and influence of NZ Maori gave me confidence too. My kids loved it - the cards, videos and site material. This gave me the confidence in Term 3 to look at our local stories which have formed the basis for a great Inquir focus.”
