“I did not sign up for one last year as I knew I would be very busy. I did not receive any school kit as well. I was off sick quite a bit last year so maybe the reliever may have received it on my behalf and used it. But I am pretty sure I did not sign up to it last year.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes - we went on to research our area and its history. We visited important places around of community.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I think the kit is a great tool for teachers to use. It takes some of the stress out of trying to prepare the content and means we can get straight into the meat of engaging with the content and getting our students on board.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I would be interested in taking some of that storytelling aspect and applying it to our local area. We've been in touch with the marae we whakapapa to and I think it would be possible to apply some of the kit's model to our own.

“We loved using the Aotearoa NZ Histories 23 kit with a group of international students at our kura. Along with students currently studying in our French class, we had seven students from France who took part in the activities. It was an opportunity not only for those international students, but for our own ākonga to engage with the history of this whenua in a way they hadn't before. The kit was easy to use, and the digital aspect meant that we could work as a whole group or as pairs/small groups where needed.”

“I work in a space of child led learning, Montessori, and so used this kit was set up as a provocation. The students that engaged with it liked the visual aspect of the photos and these generated good discussions. The website section 'how to read a photo' was helpful.”
