How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Having the primary sources has been wonderful in considering how we can get students to read a range of texts to find meaning.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Finding the local whakapapa has been very helpful and we have consider ways we can get students to write their own to support their investigations.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Made me more comfortable sharing information about regions of New Zealand I have not been. Having that knowledge shared makes things more open for the learners and builds confidence that they can share the knoweldge with others.

“The School kit is filled with fantastic resources including copies of primary sources that will help my students understand the relevance of our history in the discussion of texts from around Aotearoa. We are focusing on helping our students understand the purpose of a story, novel or poem and having the model of whakapapa to open up their understanding of the author's background and setting is fantastic. It is really important with the changes in NCEA pulling NZ History forward to have specific examples from local spots. One of the sites is a few roads away from my kura so has been useful in helps us think about local learning.”

Not quite connections with local iwi, but discussions did lead to local histories and the relevance of mana whenua (I have attached photo of our discussion in relating to migration with our buddy class below)

“I found this kit excellent when teaching histories. It was engaging and can be used in multiple different ways. I was able to hold whole class sessions and my students could access the materials independently to produce detailed work and were fully engaged. The links are excellent and the layout is very well thought out. I like the flexibility of moving between the different year level content. We have also used it for whole staff meetings to learning about our local history.”

“This is an incredibly comprehensive resource and can be used in so many different ways, by taking a different focus each time the kit is utilised. It does take time to go through, learn and understand the resource thoroughly, but the understanding students will come away with makes the time spent well worthwhile - and of course, teachers would have had to spend SO much more time trying to collate this material themselves!”

There was a lot of important information in the links that I would have found it hard to find myself.
