How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It has exposed me to stories I hadn't heard of. I will be able to share these stories with future classes.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I could use this model. It aligns well with my schools outlook on the NZ Histories curriculum. We have been focusing on local histories and this resource really supports some of our teachings.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? I think the impact was HUGE. One of my biggest fears is sharing information that doesn't align with our Maaori history. Knowing that this resource was created with Iwi and whaanau gives me confidence that the knowledge I am sharing is accurate.

“This resource is so well thought out and intricate. My students have enjoyed exploring what interests them. The resource allows everyone to follow their journey. I felt as though I was on a learning journey as well. I enjoyed learning beside my students. My favourite moments have been when students explore stories from a certain place and are also able to talk about their own experiences or connections to that place. They've made connections to people in Aotearoa's history and life today. I am still completing the kit and will continue into term 4.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It helped me gain deeper knowledge and understanding which gave me much more confidence.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It helped me recognise the importance of knowledge about ancestry and the importance of it in Maaori Culture. We have started to explore the history in the Waikato in more detail so the resource can be adapted an used to suit.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Extremely helpful. When delivery content though stories, the students can make connections to self and world. They are not only learning the history of where they are from but is also linked to social sciences, reading and writing curriculum areas.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Increased my confidence by having all the material there for you, takes the worry about sourcing the information and knowing it is credible.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Absolutely. As a school we have explored artefacts within the school grounds, interviewing past teachers and students and created QR codes so others can access what we found out.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I’m very much looking forward to delving into the history of the local area. Especially seeing as one of the stories was based close by to our school.

“The Aotearoa NZ Histories unit was full of amazing sources and resources for the children to explore. The stories where very interesting and we had a great two terms working through some of the stories. I did find that the website was too hard for the children to work through by themselves and we ended up going through it as a whole class. We had to spend time unpacking a lot of the sources as the comprehension level was too hard for the children in my Year 5 class. We really enjoying looking through the stories and the children found them very interesting.”
