“I found this kit excellent when teaching histories. It was engaging and can be used in multiple different ways. I was able to hold whole class sessions and my students could access the materials independently to produce detailed work and were fully engaged. The links are excellent and the layout is very well thought out. I like the flexibility of moving between the different year level content. We have also used it for whole staff meetings to learning about our local history.”

“This is an incredibly comprehensive resource and can be used in so many different ways, by taking a different focus each time the kit is utilised. It does take time to go through, learn and understand the resource thoroughly, but the understanding students will come away with makes the time spent well worthwhile - and of course, teachers would have had to spend SO much more time trying to collate this material themselves!”

This kit has giving me the confidence to explore New Zealand history country wide and not just focus on local history. There was a lot of important information in the links that I would have found it hard to find myself.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This kit has ignited a passion in me for NZ histories and I love learning about new stories that has shaped our country. The model is a very easy one to follow and use.

“This carefully curated collection of artifacts from the history of Aotearoa is excellent. The themes wide enough to provide starting points for any number of inquiries, but specific enough to be accessible for all of us new to this refresh of the Social Sciences curriculum.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I feel like I'm also learning at the same time with the kids and they enjoy the fact that I am learning alongside them. It also has made me feel confortable with the information so that I'm not stressing out trying to find the facts myself and so I'm saving so much planning time.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It's encouraged me to make contact with our local historian at the archives so I can find local stores I do not know about - as I'm not a local in my small town.

Using selected stories at the beginning of each term has enabled akonga to gain a home connection with our inquiry concept for the term.
