Unfortunately due to timing and some school events that were unexpected, we were only able to touch the surface of this resource. I will instead use this resource more in-depth term 4.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It is definately a resource that I will continue to use over the years. It has also been shared amongst other staff within our school and Kahui Ako. With these resources I felt confident that my line of teaching was the correct one and I was teaching information about different cultural perspectives. This is the most significant resources we have been provided with when it comes to the new curriculum. It is what teachers need to feel they are delivering the correct information
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Absolutely. We found some wee gems that were specific to Otago that had the children really excited

I enjoyed working through the part of Abel Tasman with the whole class, as that was where we were going on camp. As we are moving onto Term 4 and focusing on Aotearoa NZ Histories, our team is going to collaboratively and utilise this resource more.

We haven't delved too deep into this box yet, but there's a lot to discover next term and in future - I like that it's a resource you can keep and return to with different kids. From our brief interaction with it, it seems to be more suited to the older kids - the year 4s in my case.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It gave me a starting point so I was relatively confident.
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Our local schools have been part of a Kahui Ako collaboration learning about the history of the local iwi - Ngati Awa. Yes we used this model to look at historical photos of Whakatane and Ngati Awa.

The tamariki were fascinated by the photos and were able to research some of the stories behind the photos. The sack with contents intrigued some of the tamariki as we have a historical flax mill nearby.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I was plesantly surprised that I was also able to teach part of the story from overseas and the connection to world events. This is important in my opinion, NZ is too small to only focus on the NZ part of a story. Our kids need to know how we connect with the wider world.
How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? So far we have only gone through one story as we were so captivated. I would look into the local history to see if any connection could be made to the people and brands we studied.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? I knew that the accounts would not have been doctored, they would be true accounts.

My class really enjoyed this kit. As a class we all learned how to use the website and kit using one photograph. The plan was to work together for the first 2 tasks and then either continue on in pairs or choose a new photograph. We all enjoyed it so much that we continued as a class on the same photograph. The resources were excellent - pitched at the right level for all in my class. The learning on the topic was excellent - it was interesting and my students were captivated by the videos and newspaper articles as well as the true stories that lead the learning for the task. Connecting to outside NZ was fantastic to give a wider view. As a teacher, the task of writing a timeline allowed me to teach the skill thoroughly. We plan to use this kit again. Best kit we've had in my opinion.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? Huge. My own education was through an NZ European lens where iwi voices weren't heard. This kit provides those voices.

An incredible resource packed full of fascinating and unsettling information. These are stories that must be taught. Students developed critical thinking skills and research skills. The pack offered a variety of ways of gathering information, e.g., unpacking pepeha, using maps, watching videos, reading high level text. I did find that our students were not able to understand the information independently but it made for an awesome teacher-led inquiry.
