How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Although we have only delved a little, I feel I can teach the curriculum content with a little more ease. Better than Ministry PD.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Our kahui ako have spent much time along with our local iwi on local history. They have set models but feel I could integrate the two.

“Although we have not finished the kit as yet, the class have enjoyed the presentation of the kit. They and I are impressed with how interactive it is, though this is also an issue due to the number of devices available within our class. The kit allows for all learners to participate with a class mate.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It has helped me to see how simple it can be to explore the history of New Zealand. I also learnt a lot through reading up on the stories myself, when I was working out the stories suitable for the students.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It has shown me a very engaging and exciting way to explore our own local history.

“I found this quite advanced for my year 3/4 class. So really had to sieve through the information. The pepeha at the beginning of each story was a great way for the students to find out what the places were.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Whilst initially I felt a little overwhelmed at how much I don't know, this kit is a great learning tool for teachers with super resources all in one place.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Yes, I'm definitely more interested in the history of Wellington. Whilst I have some awareness of the city's past, there is so much I am not aware of and would love to find out more.

“Whilst I haven't used the kit yet with my class, I have spent some time with colleagues exploring and unpacking the school kit and plan to use it in term 4. I am planning to use the Mauka resource with my Year 4 class. We are exploring migration stories and the fact that this resource focuses on Wellington (where we are) is fantastic for the local perspective. I did initially find the site a little tricky to navigate and am a little overwhelmed by the content that is to be covered by Year 4 students but am open to embracing it and value the importance of the histories Aotearoa curriculum and think the school kit will help to upskill teachers and give them confidence in their teaching of many topics that are new to them.”

“This is wonderful physical and digital resource. I love that it can be used with guidance but also to extend individuals. I have a very talented student who is working on an independent programme using this kit and she absolutely loves it! It provides a great challenge for her in her research skills and engages her as it is localised.”

“I had to carefully select a small part of the kit to use as it was a little above what my Year 3&4's could do. What I enjoyed most was the experience of using photographs and the amazing oral language and discussion that came out of these. The ākonga were amazing by how different life was before now and hadn't even thought about a life that was different. I must say that I only just got to explore a part of the website and didn't realize what amazing online support there was. I hope I get to use this more in the future as I can see it being a useful resource.”

“We really enjoyed the kit in our class. Not a whole lot of children knew much about the history of NZ so this was a great resource that they could use on their own and in a group. The children love sharing what they had learnt with their family’s through seesaw and with other classes within our school.”
