“We have used the individual sources in our planning for next years programme. We haven’t had a chance to use it in class as the year programme was greatly delayed by cyclone Gabrielle as we are in Hawkes Bay. The sources are really useful for building narratives and prepping students skills for being future history students who sit the source interpretation standard.”

“Wow - what an incredible resource! Thank-you so much for putting this together. Full of detail and engaging for our students. Our Year 7's have been exploring the universal concept of "power' this year, and this resource has been an excellent source of content for delivering the NZ Histories curriculum. Unpacking the 'Solidarity' theme and exploring apartheid through the 1981 Springbok Tour was a real eye opener for many students. Digging deeper we looked at various protest movements in NZ and examined the power imbalances in society that ultimately led to people taking action. This resource will be our focus for Term 4 and I can't wait to explore this resource further with my students.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This kit unpacked some local histories for us and generated thinking around other key history in our zone. By linking this to the library access shared means we could use the same structure to find out more local information.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Definitely a good starting point. There was a lot in there that I didn't know so it was nice to have a little bit of a lot of different things.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I found some of the questions where a bit confusing and not very clear but the model itself was great. I just told my students they could chose what level reading/questions they wanted to do.

“This box had everything I needed to hook the students in and start them on their discovery of New Zealand's history. It took me a little while to get my own head around it and understand where to go and what to do but once I had that clear in my own head, it made it very easy for me to facilitate the students. We did some journeys together so we all knew exactly how it worked and then students chose their own paths as they moved through the cards. This was the base of my whole term's planning and it was deep and rich. I have no doubt this kit will come out again year after year.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It gives a wide-ranging set of resources and stories, from different parts of New Zealand, that I didn't know about.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I definitely want to find out more about the Manawatu area. My students are year 3-4, so the model used would have to be very teacher guided.
