“This is wonderful physical and digital resource. I love that it can be used with guidance but also to extend individuals. I have a very talented student who is working on an independent programme using this kit and she absolutely loves it! It provides a great challenge for her in her research skills and engages her as it is localised.”

“I had to carefully select a small part of the kit to use as it was a little above what my Year 3&4's could do. What I enjoyed most was the experience of using photographs and the amazing oral language and discussion that came out of these. The ākonga were amazing by how different life was before now and hadn't even thought about a life that was different. I must say that I only just got to explore a part of the website and didn't realize what amazing online support there was. I hope I get to use this more in the future as I can see it being a useful resource.”

“Great resource to let my independent readers work with. They loved being detectives. Lots of communication and collaboration skills were developed. This particular group got through 5 cards and sharing back sessions so now the next group are keen for their turn.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Having this content that I could look at before teaching was amazing for making me feel more confident, however I also learnt along side my children who also learnt a lot

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We spent lots of time looking at not only our schools history but our communities as well. We could absolutely use this model

“We really enjoyed the kit in our class. Not a whole lot of children knew much about the history of NZ so this was a great resource that they could use on their own and in a group. The children love sharing what they had learnt with their family’s through seesaw and with other classes within our school.”

“We have used the individual sources in our planning for next years programme. We haven’t had a chance to use it in class as the year programme was greatly delayed by cyclone Gabrielle as we are in Hawkes Bay. The sources are really useful for building narratives and prepping students skills for being future history students who sit the source interpretation standard.”

“Wow - what an incredible resource! Thank-you so much for putting this together. Full of detail and engaging for our students. Our Year 7's have been exploring the universal concept of "power' this year, and this resource has been an excellent source of content for delivering the NZ Histories curriculum. Unpacking the 'Solidarity' theme and exploring apartheid through the 1981 Springbok Tour was a real eye opener for many students. Digging deeper we looked at various protest movements in NZ and examined the power imbalances in society that ultimately led to people taking action. This resource will be our focus for Term 4 and I can't wait to explore this resource further with my students.”

This kit unpacked some local histories for us and generated thinking around other key history in our zone. By linking this to the library access shared means we could use the same structure to find out more local information.
