“This box of goodies is really well presented and thought out. It gave me a place to start which helped make history feel less overwhelming. I started with Nuclear which the kids have loved. It did help a lot that I have background knowledge as the little readings don't always have much detail. Each column is leveled but I find if you don't read all three you don't get the whole story. One of the videos in Nuclear had a half naked woman towards the end so I was glad I watched it first and stopped it before that point. Overall, I am enjoying using the pack but think some of the reading is too difficult or lacks detail for this age group (year 6/7/8) to properly comprehend the story.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? This kit has been awesome at providing a clear structure that can be used in a range of contexts. I used this to help plan for exploration into our local history.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? As described above - yes! I've uploaded a photo to show one of the learning tasks we completed using the same structure of this kit through a local lens.

“Once you get started, this kit is awesome. We used it to develop our research skills, and to understand that history is around us/always beneath our feet. I used the structure of this school kit to create our learning pathway for this term also. We have been exploring local history in particular using the skills and methods we learnt from the kit.”

“I really enjoyed the stories and the different perspectives. I found out stuff I didnt know however i found a lot of the tasks above my students level and there was a lot of reading. Some more hands on activities would have been great.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Gave me a better understanding of events that had happened. As a class we took a road trip around local historical buildings, areas and the local cemetery to get a better understanding of our local area and what changes had happened.

“A fantastic interactive resource that gave the children a real sense of thinking like a historian. There was a vast range of stories that covered all areas of New Zealand, including areas specific to our learners. Children thoroughly loved the challenge of trying to locate the area from the pepeha. There was a high level of excitement from the children being able to follow their own research and see artifacts from the past.”

“Fantastic resource, very well put together. For my year 6&7 class it took alot of modelling to learn how to use the resources as they found all of the writing quite overwhelming. The students worked in pairs to research their postcard and really enjoyed working out what clues were allocated to their story.”

“I have enjoyed using this resource with my class. School Kit has provided an amazing top-quality resource that I would be able to use again and again. The hard copy resource, along with the interactive online side of it is clear and easy to understand. I started as a whole class and then broke the students into small groups, using the same card and the differentiated tasks. I enjoyed learning about these stories of New Zealand, opening my eyes to new places and events that I didn't know about myself.”
