“I thought the kit was well made, designed and put together although a little complicated to understand at the start. I work with students with intellectual disabilities and hoped it was an inclusive kit but unfortunately, although the physical resources are engaging and useful, the content was far too advanced for them and was not usable at all. I will have to create my own content to work with the resources provided.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I feel confident in the students love of learning more about history and will be introducing more inquiry based learning based on this model.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? This kit has definitely inspired me to explore the history of the local area, finding old photographs to share with the tamariki and asking them to research the meaning behind street names in the area.

“The level of detail in this kit is outstanding, a beautiful resource - full of artefacts for real, hands-on learning. This kit was an amazing way to introduce Aotearoa NZ histories to our learners this year. My year 4 students required a lot of teacher support throughout this activity - thankfully the teacher website was fantastic and gave me all of the answers that I needed. Despite the struggle to do the task independently, the tamariki didn't give up. They loved the 'treasure hunt' element of this kit and were determined to learn 'what happened here'.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? By providing websites that were new to me was really helpful. It has helped me to gain knowledge of parts of NZ that I was familiar with.

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Absolutely yes! I have recently moved so Ive been finding it difficult to teach history in an area that is so rich in its local history, this kit has certainly helped.

I feel empowered to start with this information and build on it to continue to grow my knowledge of our varied history and my confidence in teaching it as a part of our curriculum.

“I really enjoyed using this kit and it was a great support to my teaching and also boosted my knowledge and brought in aspects I hadn't considered. The children loved the resources and were excited to work out what they meant and discover more detail about them online. They sparked great discussions and debates in class. The only disappointment with the kit was that it arrived well after expected and a few of the pages were not available when I was covering them in class, so the kit was only half as useful as it could have been, due to timing. I am looking forward to next year when I can do this again and will have the resources all ready to go.”
