“I found the resource amazing. My year seven and eight students actively participated in all aspects of the programme. The oral language discussion that came from the access to the materials allowed for us to walk students through a timeline of events.”

“The visuals and the other resources were beautifully received by my students. It enhanced their understanding and made them think about how things and the tough times may have affected the Maori and the early settlers. The Power of the guns may have been extremely visible and suffered by the indigenous people in those days.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? The kit was amazing. I feel really happy to have this resource and our plan is to continue to use it next term and further build on our knowledge developed so far.

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? I feel secure knowing that the information being shared takes the iwi point of view. The stories were very powerful. The students really understood the unfairness and the inequity experienced. We were able to take the teaching materials and make engaging activities for our students based on the materials. We loved using the mahinga kai videos we found in the "Promises" kit and I was able to launch student inquiries following the teaching of the unit.

“We used the "Promises" card to launch our teaching across a team of 5 teachers. We focussed on Kaitiakitanga following some learning about kumara in our local area. The resources found in the kit were very empowering because we were not spending our time searching for scarce information, we were able to spend our time developing quality teaching activities from the resources which we knew would be engaging for our learners.”

“The NZ Histories kit was fantastic. My year 7/8 class were very engaged. I gave them a postcard each and they then completed Task 1. As with everything, some found it quite tricky as there was lots of reading involved. The photos were amazing. They loved just sitting and looking through them.”
