“A great resource the website and links were easy to navigate for the students. Reading level was quite high and a bit tricky for some of my year 6 students but great for year 7-8. Lots of choice and really interesting information from different perspectives.”

What was the impact of knowing the stories in this kit were developed in collaboration with their iwi/whānau/community? This was an amazing link in this kit. While my kids at first struggled to figure out how the pepeha linked to each place, however once they got the hang of it it was really powerful.

“This was a great resource. The kids loves looking at all the bits and pieces of NZ history. My students (Y6/7) did struggle a little finding their way around the digital platform, but overall, they were very engaged. Fit in well with our local curriculum focus.”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I am ANZH lead so have had some PD around it but it was great to find a resource where everything was in the same place

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We are planning a school camp next year in the able Tasman so we can visit these places as well as others of significance along the way.

“I scaled it down and just completed the postcard located in Able Tasman as I teach at a Nelson School. We ended up linking our art to it and doing watercolours from the birds lists included. Great crossover with our kaitiaki iwi also.”

“I found the inquiry model of this kit really easy to use with my Year 7/8s. The artefacts, cards and website were easy to use and so rich that they could be taken many different ways. This kit could easily be drawn out over multiple terms, depending how deep you wanted students to go with their inquiry.”
