What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit?
We linked writing to it. 1 activity was carried out and then had to write an instructional text on how they did it for a next person. The next task was swapped around. They had to write an instruction text, swap writing books with the person sitting next to them and then followed those instructions with their last writing task being a recount on their favourite circuit activity.
“My Y 6 - 8 group was working on the Power it up kit this term. They really enjoyed the learning around a simple circuit, a parallel circuit and how a light witch works.
The way how it is structured into a booklet with relatable topics really hooked them in and it was exciting to see how they all were successful in their task.
Thank you our learners at Bombay School had a lot of fun using this kit on our learning journey.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit?
Technology - integration with our EPro8 mechanical kit, reading and maths.
“We loved the kit! It was engaging, and relatable for the students as the activities in the booklet mentioned places they know. Having all the equipment readily available was convenient and time saving for our teachers. The activities and explanations suited all age groups and diverse skills. We went to the 'Electrifying' exhibition at the Waikato museum on a schooltrip. Once there, the students were able to recognise and talk about the topic in more detail. Students applied their knowledge to other experiment such as power through fruit, making circuits with salt vs sugar playdought, drawing circuits using symbols, design a house and create lights in all the rooms in the house (shoebox), etc. Overall, we are very happy with this kit and would teach it again. This one is a keeper!”

“Great kit, students were fully engaged and loved the little booklet with the different circuits. I was able to buddy the students up, so that they could help each other out.”

Literacy and Science
“This was our second time using this resource. The first time we used it in isolation as an afternoon task. This time we used it as part of our cross-curricular Literacy/Science learning. We learned about several inventors and their discoveries and inventions, and how they helped to give us electricity as we know it today.”

Digital technology
“The students really enjoyed this. However, it was quite hard to get the tape to consistently make a circuit that would make the lightbulb light up. So these students tended to lose interest a little faster than if it had been more successful.”
