My kids loved it. I have a couple of boys who are really into circuits etc and it was a fantastic chance for them to have a leadership role in helping the class.

The kit was great! Students definitely gained a good understanding about circuits. We loved the hands-on, practical approach. The only problem we had was making the buzzers work - even after adding more batteries. This is a great resource.

This science schoolkit was brilliant! I started it off as our term 1 discovery unit and it opened up other paths of learning. My students were so engaged with the concept of how the different components worked to making the light bulbs light up. They were curious from the get go as we have not covered much of science in the last year due to working from home. So, this was a great opportunity to introducing them to that physical/chemical science concepts. They even conducted their own research for deeper understanding of how a battery works. How all the different circuits work with each of the electric components. As a final wrap up of the unit, the students had to write an information report (literacy integration) about the three different circuits they made in the booklets, how each one works with the components it requires. In the students information reports they had to include the faults each circuits will likely to have and how to fix them. What was great about this unit was that it allowed my students to use their critical thinking processes and investigation skills. They developed their ability to explain processes of how an electric circuit works. I would recommend this kit to anyone who is passionate about science and wants hands on experiences to support students learning.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The students had a lot of questions about the different places featured in the book, so we were able to explore this too, as well as writing explanations for how circuits worked and how they created theirs.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This will lead us nicely into further exploration into circuits, electricity and tying this into Minecraft circuits and powering systems there too - the students are very excited about this!

Oh my gosh! This kit is just brilliant! It’s the perfect way to introduce circuits with your students and my kids just loved it! They would even ask if they could work on their books before school. I also loved that the activities in the books relate to real places in NZ - it made it just that little bit more authentic. I can’t wait to do this again next year!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? When teaching the kit, some maths came into it as well, it was great to discuss right angles and parallel lines.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I would love to continue teaching them more about circuits, it is an area that the tamariki are excited to learn more about. They love the hands on activity!

The tamariki in my class thoroughly enjoyed this kit. They were really engaged. They learnt about what a circuit was and also different types of circuits. As a teacher, it was great to see them using their problem solving skills when they found that their LEDs would not light up. They sometimes had to backtrack to make sure that the copper tape was not broken at any stage, especially at their corners, or whether it was that they didn't have enough power to power the lights, or round the wrong way. It was great to see them collaborating with each other during the activity to help support each other getting their LEDs to work. I love the guides and the information that comes with it, it is great to have all the information at hand to teach the kids about circuits and electricity, when your own knowledge is not that great. Thank you so much for this kit!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? There was lots of discussion around electricity and electrical circuits. Lots of collaboration and cooperation to get lights to work. We could have read more about electricity and circuits and even done writing around this topic.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We could have continued to learn more about keeping safe around electricity. Developing a bigger circuit in a 3D model. However our school went into lockdown again so we had to put a stop on the learning.

My Year 3/4 class absolutely loved your Power it Up Kit. They were so engaged and once they understood how circuits worked they independently completed the book leaving me to walk around and guide them. We had so many squeals of delight as they made the lights glow. They wished the alarm was a bit louder but that didn't curb the enthusiasm that getting that circuit to go held. A huge thank you for providing this kit.

I absolutely love this kit! It is so much fun and the engagement is really high. We even created our own personalised Christmas cards as there was a bit left over. My only critique is that the buzzers didn't work. Some made a quiet clicking noise. Apart from that, it is a fantastic opportunity for the students and they learnt so much through hands on learning.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Maths would feature highly - measuring the copper tape, shapes, you could even bring in statistics!
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We didn't have a lot of time due to Lockdown, however we will be able to refer back to the kit and the problem solving we had to do with it next year, as we will have the same students.

The Power It Up kit was fantastic! It was a great way to engage our students in learning after coming back from Lockdown. The problem solving and discussions that came out of creating the circuits was the best I've seen yet. Although we didn't have time to do all of the activities in the Teacher Guide, our students have become very curious about how the different types of circuits work. This kit is definitely worth the time!
