How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? We focused on how we can support our relationships with each other when they are not going well. This has helped the students think more of others and that we all have a different point of view but it doesn't mean that different is wrong.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? Using the stories about including others and acts of kindness activities really made the children understand how to act outside the classroom as well as inside.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? I found that my students worked better with a range of other students particularly with in their reading/math groups as these are different to their social groups generally. There was a lot more support between then and teaching each other.

“We loved our respectful relationships kit. The class battery was a great way for children to identify how they were feeling and then check in with each other to try and get everyone in the green. The story telling map was great for identifying behaviours in the playground and ways to help each other. Students loved putting stickers on each others charts and filling their charts with a rainbow of stickers.”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? Supporting new akonga as they arrive in our class. The expectations are not all coming from me, the akonga have a shared voice of what they find acceptable, and importantly are able to let other know, without being whiney.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? The shared language of support. They remind each other and are able to vocalise when they see an injustice rather than coming to me, they are able to sort it.

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? The way the class interacts with each other is overall in a positive manner. They are able to talk about and express their feelings which is important when conflicts occur.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? Students have been more open to exploring new friendships. They have used positive language to ask someone new to play, or if they can join someone else game.

“We had this for term one, thinking it it would be a great way to start our year. However, covid hit our class particularly hard, so moved it to term 2. This was then a blessing, as we were able to regroup, and check in with each other, which we don't often get to do, as the big push is the beginning of the year.”
