How successful has this kit been in building the relationships between students in your classroom?
How effective has this kit been in improving students' prosocial behaviours?
How has this kit influenced your classroom community?
This kit has had a great influence on our classroom community because the relatable scenarios were able to be discussed in 'kids speak' and it allowed a safe space for the class to discuss any thoughts or playground issues that they or friends were having. We role played many of the situations that came up and brainstormed solutions for those situations should they occur in the playground. With the arrival of a new student to our class who has little to no English, my students are quick to support him with his learning tasks showing just how respectful and thoughtful they are without me even prompting them to do so! They just see that he needs help and offer their support. We have also had some 'senior leaders' in our class volunteer to be helpers for the younger children in our class so that they have buddies to go to for help.
How have the components of Respectul Relationships helped develop your student's understanding of what a respectful relationship is?
To begin we discussed and unpacked what respectful relationships sound like/feel like/look like and as the unit of learning went on students were able to label/verbalise when they recognised respectful relationships. We were also able to link this into understand our school values.
How relevant has this kit been in your class during covid times?
How relevant has this kit been with maintaining/establishing/reestablishing classroom relationships during Covid?
With Covid lockdowns children missed out on developing critical socialising skills needed for their development. This kit allowed them to learn about, identify key scenarios/situations, feelings and emotions, what to look for in others responses and how to respond themselves, as well as to practice the skills they're learning in a safe environment.
