I have done lots of work on emotional regulation with my class as I have a few children with adhd. This kit complemented this work by encouraging relationships and kindness, especially the playlunch project.

How has this kit influenced your classroom community? Yes. It has been awesome to see our children playing with new buddies and using the base station to re-charge or take timeout.

Very relevant, we delayed using it as we had a big group away with covid. As children returned we found group dynamics were a little off and this helped to re-settle them.

Children have a much better understanding of how different children have different needs and how these can be met. They are trying to put themselves in 'others shoes'. Showing empathy and compassion.

“The Respectful Relationships kit is the first School Kit I've used in a couple of years. Wow! I love the online squad platform. It was great to read through all the information and tasks prior to receiving the box. I had a good idea of the key themes and tasks beforehand and it was great to refer back to when needed. The students absolutely loved this box, their favourite was the playlunch project and the class battery. It's really lifted the attitudes in our classroom and their relationship with one another.”

How has this kit influenced your classroom community? Was great to be able to refer back to our learning and have tamariki problem solve their own solutions when issues arose. We were able to focus more on the things we would do to show respect, as opposed to the negative elements we are trying to eliminate.

We have had some very anxious tamariki return to school, and I felt this kit allowed us a lot of options in our kete to deal with that anxiety from the outset.

“This kit provided (as usual) fantastic, engaging resources for our classroom to explore Respectful Relationships. My students have really enjoyed charging our class battery and reflecting at the end of each day on who they have played with and exchanging stickers. They have also particularly enjoyed the stories and video resources, which have sparked some great writing ideas. My only negative would be that there was almost too much - I found it a bit overwhelming to understand exactly what to do at first and we havn't had time to use all the resources to their fullest - but I will be able to keep them for the future!”
