In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? It was surprising to find that some children who I thought would be safe in the digital world weren't making the best decisions about their safety, showed me that I sometimes assume they know things that they don't.

“Good to see some children are making good choices online, it was a good way to open up the discussion for those who may not be making the safest choices and inform them of ways to change this.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? The issue isn't strangers on the internet, the kids are savvy enough to know what's a scam or who's a catfish and to not give out information etc. Their issues are with those they know' online behaviour.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? -

“The instructions were quite hard to follow. I would love some help with the discussion points of certain things - ie the poem, the video etc.. I often struggle with how they are meant to link to the topic . A few key questions or key points would be a huge help. Sample ideas, samples of the resources completed would also help me get an idea of how they are intended to be used. Unfortunately the timing of this kit didn't suit me as well as I'd have liked. I love that that is something that's changing for next year - thank you!”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Some of the scenarios presented were not what the students had already been exposed to/ I felt more explicit teaching needed to be held to discuss these properly with them.

“This was quite a thought provoking unit however I found it disjointed and not an easy teaching guide to follow.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Students that I had assumed would make use of the ";ring of invisibility";, did not and ones that I thought wouldn't said they would. Their reasoning was to find out top secret information and reveal it to our government - much better than what I had fear

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I was surprised by the lack of boundaries placed on many of my students while at home, both online and physically. Perhaps this is in response to Covid?

“This kit could not have come at a more relevant time! It was perfect to use with Year 8 students, especially after a year when students have spent more time online than ever before. It was engaging and we used it in conjunction with the ";Tackling Technology"; talk through ";Attitude"; (Parenting Place).”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I was surprised to learn how many of my students talk to strangers online on a regular basis, and even more surprised about many of them do this via video chat! I was also surprised by the kinds of content they were viewing and engaging with online.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I was surprised at the mature discussions we were able to have, and how all students felt comfortable sharing about their personal experiences online - especially kids who don't normally share.

“I really enjoyed exploring this kit with my Year 7/8 class. It sparked some fantastic discussions amongst students about some topics that I would not have had the confidence to explore without this kit. I gained a better understanding of my students online behaviours and what they need in terms of support to be safe online. The resources were relevant and the kit was easy to implement. Thanks for another great kit School Kit!”

“My class was really engaged during the sessions. It was really meaningful. Some great ideas came up around the Ring, e.g. invisible people feel powerful, confident and they can pay people back for wrong they’ve done.”
